Criminal law
Charged, or contacted by police? We act in criminal matters across the Local, District and Supreme Courts of NSW, from first advice through to hearing, sentence and appeal.
Why early advice matters
What you say to police, how you plead and what you do before the first court date can shape everything that follows. Get advice before you decide.
01
You have the right to get legal advice before you take part in an interview. We can tell you what to expect and what your options are.
02
We review the charge and the police facts, explain where you stand and prepare what the court will need, including bail where it is in issue.
03
A plea is hard to undo. We test the evidence first, so that any decision to plead guilty or defend the charge is an informed one.
What we handle
Local, District and Supreme Courts of NSW
We prepare every matter as though it is going to hearing. That preparation is what gets charges reduced, withdrawn or successfully defended, and it is what makes the difference on sentence when a plea is the right course.
Our principal has appeared in serious indictable crime trials and, between 2020 and 2026, secured acquittals for every client whose matter went before a jury.

Common questions
Every matter is different, so the best answer is a conversation. These are the questions we hear most often.
Should I talk to police before getting legal advice?
You have the right to get legal advice before taking part in a police interview. What you say can be used as evidence, so in almost every case it is wise to speak to a lawyer first. Call us before you go in.
Will I get a criminal record?
Not always. It depends on the charge, your history and the circumstances. In some matters a court can deal with an offence without recording a conviction. We will tell you honestly whether that is realistic in your case and what would support it.
My court date is soon. Is it too late?
Usually not. We regularly take on matters at short notice, including court appearances only days away. The sooner you call, the more time we have to prepare, so do not wait.
Should I plead guilty or not guilty?
That decision should only be made once you have seen the evidence and had advice on it. We go through the police brief with you, explain your options and the likely outcomes of each, and you decide.
How much will it cost?
It depends on the matter, which is why we explain the likely costs at the start, before any work begins. You will know where you stand financially from day one, with no surprises.
