Traffic law

Traffic lawyersin Newcastle.

Drink driving, speeding, driving while suspended and licence appeals. Losing your licence can cost you your job, so we work to keep you on the road wherever the law allows.

Why it matters

A licence is more than a piece of plastic.

For most people it is how they get to work, look after family and keep life running. Traffic matters move quickly and the appeal windows are short.

01

Appeal periods are short

Licence suspension appeals must be lodged within a strict timeframe. Once it passes, the option is usually gone.

02

Some penalties are automatic

Many traffic offences carry automatic disqualification periods, and some carry interlock orders. Knowing what applies to you is the first step.

03

Preparation changes outcomes

What you put before the court matters: your driving record, your need for a licence and the steps you have taken since the offence.

Common questions

Traffic law, answered plainly.

Every matter is different, so the best answer is a conversation. These are the questions we hear most often.

Can I appeal a licence suspension?

In many cases, yes. Some suspensions issued by Transport for NSW or by police can be appealed to the Local Court, but strict time limits apply. Call us as soon as you receive the notice so the deadline is not missed.

Will I lose my licence for drink driving?

It depends on the reading, your record and the circumstances. Most drink driving offences carry a disqualification period, but the length varies and in some cases a court can deal with the matter without recording a conviction. We will tell you what is realistic for you.

Do I have to go to court?

If you have received a court attendance notice, generally yes. We appear with you, and we will tell you if your matter is one where we can appear on your behalf.

What is the Traffic Offenders Program?

It is an education program for people charged with traffic offences. Completing it before sentence can show the court you have taken the matter seriously. We can tell you whether it is worthwhile in your case.

How much will it cost?

It depends on the matter, which is why we explain the likely costs at the start, before any work begins. You will know where you stand financially from day one, with no surprises.
